Webquest Site for Periods 5, 6, 7, & 8

For the next few weeks you will be working on the following webquest.  The grade you get on this webquest will determine your mid-quarter grade so do a good job!!

You will be working in groups that I assign you and will need to a class presentation at the end of the project.  As we go through the webquest I will be giving you extra information and rubrics.

Have Fun!

Short Week

Even we are all happy to be done with school at 11:30 it's a tough week as the students are trying to get projects completed.  The deadlines are coming up fast and the time is short.  However, I must say that the students are really using their time wisely and working hard to accomplish what they can in a short amount of time.

Ready or Not. . .it's time for Mid Quarter Grades!!

Wow! I can't believe it's almost time for Mid-Quarter Grades.  All of the computer classes (including X-Block) have just completed a webquest on internet safety.  I believe they all learned a lot about how to be safe when surfing the internet as well as understanding more computer/technology terms.  We are going to be using the skills we have learned to evaluate other websites in preparation for our upcoming projects.

The 2 robotics classes have also been working on robotics webquests and are finishing up their presentations this week.  The Beginning Robotics class will then begin work on their upcoming First Lego League competition coming up on Saturday, November 20.  The Advanced Class is going to be practicing their presentation skills in hopes of earning more points when it comes time for their competition in the spring.

Take time to ask your students about some of the things they are doing in class. . .it shows them you care.  = )

x block

In Mrs. Herbig's class were learning about internet safety, through a webquest. The class was split into several different groups and every person in each group had a role that demonstrated the dangers of unsafe internet use. Spammer Sally is a girl who was addicted to e-mail. Netiquette Nelly is a girl who is always trying to be as nice as she can be in day to day life but on the internet she seems to forget what it means to be nice. Surfer Steve is a boy who loves looking for information on the internet and can spend hours looking for one small piece of information because he likes to see where other links go, and he is not knowledgeable about how to get the information he is looking for. Chatty Chris is a boy who loves to chat on the internet but doesn't really know the proper rules of chatting.

End of the First Week

Whew. . .we made it!!  It's been a hectic week but I think we all survived.

I would like to thank all of the parents who were able to attend the first day of school with their child, especially in 7th and 8th grade.  I know sometimes our kids don't want us there but I have always thought it was important to meet the teachers and find out what's going on.

This week in my classes we worked on getting to know each other and practiced our communication skills with one another since we will be doing a lot of group work this year.   In X-Block and the Computer Technology classes the students have started work on a webquest about internet safety.  They are learning about what it means to be safe on the internet and how to educate others.  Look for their presentations here in a couple of weeks.

I will have 2 substitute teachers next week.  I will be out for a 1/2 day on Tuesday (8/10) for a teacher workshop and my sub will Mrs. Sandra Na'ihe. She has subbed here many times and currently runs the Jump Start program at CKMS.  On Friday I will be at a Robotics workshop and my sub will be Mr. John Cabello.  Mr. Cabello is also a regular sub here at CKMS.  I have no doubt they will do an awesome job.
